The Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), organized a one-day working session that attracted over 100 manufactures from various sectors and stakeholders. The meeting was graced by the Minister for Industry and Trade Prof. Hon. Kitila Mkumbo has significant importance in the industrialization agenda. The study titled “THE CURRENT STATE OF PLAY OF MANUFACTURING SECTOR IN TANZANIA” was officially presented at this event with support from GIZ Business Scouts for Development Programme.
The study aimed at assessing the state of play of the manufacturing sector in Tanzania by analyzing its challenges affecting the sector and proposing measures to mitigate the impact. The findings also addressed the frameworks and policies, opportunities, challenges, national perspectives and recommendations on how to improve the situation. The Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI) and its stakeholders will use the findings to facilitate the operationalization of the advocacy strategy in order to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector in Tanzania, which is largely dominated by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The study proposed policy recommendations on which the government will need to set a budget to develop and support technology infrastructure initiatives, for instance, investment in research and technology for big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovations. Furthermore, the study suggests that incentives to attract multinational companies to build manufacturing sites and supply networks within the country for easy access of inputs to Tanzanian local manufactures would pave the way to localization, which is an emerging topic in industrialization.

CTI with the support of Business Scouts for Development, a German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded initiative used this working session as an important avenue to gather members and stakeholders to intensively discuss among themselves and exchange ideas and views with the government and reach a consensus on essential issues that enhance the pace of industrial development for final presentation to the upcoming TNBC meeting, the highest level of Public-Private Dialogue (PPD).
